EP008: Julia Taylor: From Parental Loss & Adoption to Athletic Greatness

My amazing guest on this episode is Julia Taylor.

By the young age of seven, Julia had lost both of her parents, being adopted by her aunt and uncle with her two older brothers.

While dealing with the grief of losing her parents, Julia was also on a journey of discovering her own identity, values and beliefs.

One way she began to gain clarity on who she was and what she desired was through discovering handball. Julia’s been playing handball now for Team USA for over 13 years and played on the 2021 U.S. Women's National Team for North American and Caribbean Handball Confederation Women's Championships.

In addition to being an elite athlete, Julia also defines herself as an abolitionist, an anti-racist, and an intersectional feminist. With a Masters in Sociology and background in non-profit work, she also devotes her time to making a major positive social impact in the world.

During our time together, Julia shares:

  • How she's navigated grief and tools she's used to support her healing
  • How finding handball helped her form a deeper sense of identity and expanded her view of the amazing possibilities for her life
  • How she transformed negative self-perceptions into positive self-identity, motivation and drive
  • What it means to her to serve as an anti-racist, abolitionist, and intersectional feminist

I hope listening to Julia’s episode inspires you to discover who you are courageously align to your passions and purpose.
